New Crops Database:
The New Crops Database is an online resource designed to provide timely information about growing, processing and utilizing alternative crops in West Tennessee and the surrounding region. Biodiversity in the region is a major focus of AgBioworks, an initiative of the Memphis Bioworks® Foundation and BioDimensions. Memphis Bioworks Foundation is a non-profit leadership organization and is working with Tennessee Department of Agriculture to maintain this valuable tool.
The New Crops Database is an online resource developed specifically for the Mid-South region of the United States focused on West Tennessee, but including MS Delta counties in Arkansas, Mississippi and Missouri. The Database has three purposes:
- To facilitate the commercialization of new crops by having easily accessible reference materials for farmers and extension agents concerning a variety of new crops adapted for production agriculture.
- To provide a central information center for research farms operating in the region to build to a collective body of data concerning new crops.
- To connect companies that want to commercialize new crops with farmers and research institutions that can assist them.
